Do you have a personal or professional motto?
Yes, it’s: ‘Enjoy what you do or don’t do it.’
Do you have a favorite newspaper, magazine, columnist or blog that you follow?
I enjoy reading The Motley Fool to stay up to date on financial advice.
What is the last book you read, for personal and for business?
The last book I read was ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ by Anthony Doerr. It’s set in occupied France during World War II, and the novel centers on a blind French girl and a German boy whose paths eventually cross. I love that it was written from the perspective of a boy who was forced to become a German soldier.
What is your favorite outside-of-work activity?
I love to take walks after work. My husband and I walk every day, rain or shine (or even snow).
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
That I have a very large extended family. Growing up I had 19 aunts, 18 uncles and over 70 first cousins. We once had a family reunion at my Uncle Charlie’s cottage on Half-Moon Lake in New Hampshire, and the police showed up because they thought it was the public beach, they had been there called for an accident. My father still has nine siblings living in Massachusetts.
What hobby would you get into if time and money weren’t an issue?
Traveling as much as possible. I’ve been to at least three of the top 10 beaches in the world and would love to see the rest!
What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
I would absolutely recommend volunteering for something you feel passionate about. One of the things I love about working at C.I.G. Private Wealth Management is we are very philanthropic-minded and every year we team together for a group volunteering activity.
We’ve donated our time to Foodshare, the regional food bank serving Hartford and Tolland counties, Gifts of Love, which provides basic needs such as food, clothing, furniture, household items, energy assistance to people in the Greater Hartford area, and the Manchester Area Conferences of Churches Community Kitchen, which provides wholesome, delicious and scratch-made lunches for anyone in our community who’s hungry.
What’s the best way to start the day?
Get organized and prioritized. And coffee. I start the day with one cup of the real stuff then switch to decaf.
